2021 Britannia One Ounce Gold Coin
The 2021 Britannia 1oz gold coin is the first of a new generation of ultra secure bullion coins produced by The Royal Mint. The 2021 gold Britannia continues the tradition of using one troy ounce of 24-carat gold (999.9 fineness), but they now have four new added design anti-forgery elements for additional peace of mind:
- The background of the coin has micro detailing to give the image of waves behind the lady Britannia. If you angle the coin, these waves appear to move.
- Britannia's shield now has additional line work detailing.
- A new inner rim has been added with more Latin text, reading 'Decus Et Tutamen', which means 'An ornament and a safeguard'.
- A new hologram has been added which shows a Trident at first - in keeping with the naval theme - but which changes to a padlock when the coin is tilted; a not-so-subtle reference to the coin's new security.
Aside these additions, Philip Nathan's classic engraving remains the same, as does obverse of the coin which continues to bear the fifth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II (first introduced to British coinage in 2015).
Gold Britannias are the most popular one ounce gold coin for larger UK-based private investors, as they are both Capital Gains Tax free (CGT exempt) and VAT-free as investment gold. As such, the 2021 Britannia promises to continue the trend of being one of the most popular choices of bullion coins for UK investors.
BullionByPost is an official partner to The Royal Mint and we source all of our new 2021 one ounce gold Britannias directly from their refinery in Llantrisant, Wales. All of our coins are sent out in protective plastic capsules, though every 10 coins will be grouped in a protective Royal Mint coin tube.
